MMH on the first symposium on National Reform Plan

Organized by the Croatian Anti-Poverty Network on June 3 the first symposium on the National Reform Programme took place within facilities of the EU Delegation in Croatia. The aforementioned National Programme, adopted by the Croatian Government in late April and promptly delivered to the European Commission; was subjected to detailed analysis by the experts from Croatian Anti-Poverty Network, Croatian Youth Network, Croatian Employers' Association and Independent Croatian Trade-Unions. Complete list of speakers is available here.
MMH was represented by Nikola Buković who laid out organizational positions on potential of the European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF) in combating poverty and social exclusion. Although pointing out decent presence of social topics within the framework of Croatian ESIF related documents, Buković emphasized standard problems of absorption capacity and quality of policies funded, also noting unrealistic expectations placed before ESIF in the National Reform Programme. Namely, they are considered as the main motor of development coupled with austerity policies, which represents an unfeasible combination in attempts to achieve convergence in standards with more developed EU member states.
