Round table on Croatia EU accession

On Monday, May 23, Heinrich Böll Stiftung and Open Society Institute jointly organized a round table, entitled: “The end of negotiations with the European Union: a step forward or a step apart?” This round table, which took place within facilities of Novinarski dom Zagreb, was divided into two panels. The first one, entitled: “A Step Forward or A Step Apart?“ dealt with readiness of Republic of Croatia to become 28th member state of the EU in light of its considerable economic downturn, low popular support for the accession and questionable administrative capacity to carry out necessary reforms. Second panel, entitled: “Chapter 23 – Judiciary and fundamental rights“, focused on the most controversial chapter of the negotiation process, which will largely determine its closure, as well as the date of Croatia’s full membership in the EU.

Nikola Buković, and national youth policy coordinator with the CYN, took part in the event.
