Study on social inclusion and social cohesion in VET system presented

On October 4, within facilities of the Economic Institute Zagreb, presentation of the project Mapping of VET educational policies and practices for social inclusion and social cohesion took place. This action was carried out by the European Training Foundation (ETF) in 7 countries of the Western Balkans, as well as in Turkey and Israel. Research component within project framework was coordinated by the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).

Two distinct, but overlapping research efforts were undertaken. Altogether nine national studies, mapping specific practices contributing to social inclusion and social cohesion in each national VET system were drafted by researchers/experts coming from respective countries. Utilizing these results, LSE drafted a comparative study, containing specific-cross country analysis and recommendations.

The Croatian study was presented by members of the Croatian research team: Nikola Buković, Karin Doolan, Natalija Lukić and Teo Matković; whereas results of the comparative study were presented by William Bartlett and Simona Milio, researchers of the LSE.

It is important to note that results of this action present basis for follow-up action, carried out by the MMH within the framework of Knowledge Centres of the National Foundation for Civil Society Development. Follow-up action is being carried out in three communities participating in the original project (Čakovec, Karlovac and Rijeka) aiming to improve their local approaches in fostering social inclusion of students from three year VET programmes.
